Mister and Miss Chico State Scholarship Contest 2008

        Since 2006, Chico State has been making a show called Mister and Miss Chico State Scholarship Contest. The winner of this contest will be described as Miss Chico State and Mr. Chico State. This year is the 3^rd pageant and it took place at BMU auditorium at Chico State University.

        It’s April 17^th, 2008. There was a contest showing in our campus tonight. It’s called Mister and Miss Chico State Scholarship Contest. The show started at 6:30 pm. There were 13 contestants participating this year, 6 men and 7 girls. By the time I entered the auditorium, the show had been already started. But fortunately, that was only the first round of the contest. Actually, there were five rounds for the contestant to show up themselves to the judges and the audiences. The first round was the professional wear and the first part of interview. Actually, I can see that everyone had a well prepared for the interview part because everyone did not take a long time to answer the questions. But my favorite round should be the second because everyone had to show up his/her talent. Among those contestants, I especially like Spencer Blair. During the talent round, he came out to the stage and danced in front of us. The background music was “Love in This Club”, a song that is sung by a popular R’n’B singer Usher. Even though there were many audiences watching him, he performed very well. After the talent round, everyone needed to dress the evening dress and faced the second part of interview. In this part, the questions were mostly about how they would handle the job once they would be selected as the Mister or Miss Chico State. Everyone seemed like having already made a plan. Finally, the game went to the last part, 4 women and 4 men were selected to come up to the stage again for the final interview. Even though this part was the shortest part in the whole event, I could see that everyone on the stage was very nervous because they knew that every word they spoke out would be able to affect the final result. Finally, it was the award time. Before they announced who would be the winner for this year, the winner of 2007 came up and spoke what she had done during last year. She had traveled down to Bay Area to visit some hospital. Also, she had taught some children drawing. After she was done, the award was announced. There were 13 contestants, but there were 18 awards. That means everyone was able to get at least one award. Mister Chico State of 2008 is Spencer Blair. I think he deserved for it because he performed well and answered the questions well. Also, I feel that he was the funniest contestant because whenever he came out, he always made something fun to make the judges and the audiences laugh. I believe it helped him earn a lot of credit. Miss Chico State of 2008 is Lynessa Williams.

        The event totally took almost 3 hours because it finally ended at 9:20pm, but that was a great. I really enjoyed it. I really admire everyone who had courage to come up to the stage and made performance tonight because I believe that it is impossible to do that for me.
